Well because I am trying to redeem myself and become a better blogger I decided to tell the story of how Jordan and I met for a few reasons.
1. for the few friends who actually read the blog and do not yet know the story.
2. for myself, seeing as how I have yet to write it down which makes me want to kick myself in the butt.
I am not one for lengthy posts so I will try to keep this short.
It was January 2009 when my long time roommate who I adore decided that we should throw a party. Now there was this one boy in particular that she had her eyes on and was always trying to plan ways for them to be together. So although she won't admit it :) the party was in a way just a hoax for her to be around him. She sent him an invitation, and he accepted. The night of the party comes and I am in a room of people and we are playing Rock Band, I am on the drums ( and I might add that I was tearing it up) when the "said" gentleman just arrived at the house and walks into the room. Only he was not alone. He had brought along his good friend and his newest roommate, Jordan David Herbert. I remember him walking around the corner and we both caught eyes. Then I noticed his shirt. It read, MADE IN CALIFORNIA. So, my very first words to him were, "Were you really made in California?" His reply, "Yep, on the floor actually" Hahahaha.... my first thoughts were, who is this guy, and I have to get to know him! The rest of the night I kept trying to steal glances at him. Little did I know at the moment, he was doing the same thing.
I wish that I could say that after that night we exchanged numbers and the rest is history, however that was not the case. 6 months go by and we keep running in to each other at social gatherings. I could never really get him alone to have a real conversation with him and to be honest I was 27 years old, tired of playing games, and quite comfortable being an independent woman. So I figured the best I could do at this point was to show that I was interested and then leave the rest up to him.
Well at the very end of June there was a big barbecue going on and we both ended up being there. Jordan and I were sitting at the same table and FINALLY after 6 months of being interested we had our first real conversation. Now I know this will sound cheesy but even though there were others at the table, as soon as we started talking it was as if we were the only ones there. I was completely blow away by the conversation, the intelligence shown, the amount of things we had in common, his knowledge of baking :) his humor, and his sarcasm. Everything! He made quite the good impression on my that night.
The very next morning we happened to be online at the same time and he started a conversation with me. So I decided to be bold and get the ball rolling a little faster by asking for his number. Yep, that's how I roll.
So now numbers are exchanged and much to my dismay I come to find out that Jordan will be leaving to Australia with his dad for 3 whole weeks. I thought for sure that all hope would be lost and that he would forget about me, even though we really weren't anything to begin with. Jordan leaves to Australia and little did I know but he had gotten my address before he left and started sending me postcard from all his travels and adventures. Let me tell you that I was beyond excited to receive them, I would read them over and over again dissecting every word. Now because he was down under the time difference between us were 9 hours but we had been emailing each other and every once in a while despite the time difference we would end up being online and the same time. I thanked him for the postcards and he said that there was more on the way. Then he asked if he could buy me some Australian children books for the kids I worked with. Really?? Umm....yeah of course you can Mr. Perfect!!!
Yikes this is longer then planned, hang in there, I am almost done....
So, while he was still in the land down under I decided to invite him to Sunday dinner. My roommates and I would take turns cooking and we are allowed a guest. I knew he was flying into Cali late Friday night plus he would still have to make the drive back to AZ . But I thought it was worth a shot to still ask him even though I was prepared for him to say no. I was surprised when I asked and he said, "What time?" Pure joy :) So not only did he have a 14 hour flight back to the states, he then decided to add a 5 hour drive just so he could be back in AZ in time for our Sunday night dinner. That night when he was on his way over I was getting so nervous. He arrived and had brought me back a few fun souvenirs from his trip. The night was wonderful. We stayed up to the wee hours of the morning discussing all there is to discuss in the world. Movies, religion, politics, music, our world travels and all the places we have yet to go. It was pretty safe to say that I liked this man a lot.
Well there you have it, that is pretty much the story. We have seen each other everyday since that Sunday. We had our first official date two days later on a Tuesday. He told me he wanted to marry me two weeks after that. Shortly after that we started ring shopping and then shortly after that, we decided to design the ring ourselves and have it custom made. It took a painful month and a half for the jeweler to make the ring (but well worth the wait) Jordan proposed on September 30th and we were married five and a half months later on March 13th 2010.
And that is the story of how we came to be.
The End
